Portland’s city council voted last week in what is the most aggressive facial recognition ban to date. Not only did they ban the usage in government agencies effective immediately, but all private use within the city must be stopped by January 1, 2021.
This is largely due to the inaccuracies that the technology suffers from. The new city ordinances allow for citizens to press charges for up to $1,000 a day of unlawful use.
