Soon after two Mississippi parents installed a Ring camera in their children’s’ shared bedroom, it was hacked. Four days after it was installed, the built-in speaker began to play Tiny Tim’s “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” in an empty room.
When the 8-year-old daughter went to investigate, a man started speaking to her, repeatedly using vulgar language. Events like this have started to occur far too frequently, and have drawn questions to Ring about the security of their cameras.

This month, a new law in California comes into effect. This law allows consumers to have more control over the data companies collect. This law applies to every company with over 50,000 customers. It will, for the first time, allow consumers to know what data is being collected, where it’s going, and why.
For businesses, that opens up a higher risk for lawsuits in the event of data breaches, so make sure you have made every effort to keep your data secure.

Amazon now allows you to schedule compatible smart lights on “wake-up lighting.” This allows you to design a routine for your lights to follow, giving you complete control over duration, brightness, and scheduling.
However, this can be used for more than just home or convenience. By allowing this schedule to run when you are out of town or out of the office, or by randomizing it, you are deterring burglars. In this case, the more lights, the better!
