Apple’s new watch detects when the user has taken a hard fall. A real life example of this happened on September 15th, when a man riding his bike took a sharp curve going downhill, causing him to fall off his bike. The crash rendered him unconscious, but his Apple Watch called 911 when it detected no movement after sixty seconds.
The watch also sent his location to his son, who was set up as an emergency contact. Through fall detection technology, the man was able to get treatment within minutes, and has since been discharged from the hospital with minor injuries.
