Columbus, Georgia introduced a new law January 1st that increased fines for false alarms. This law is due to a larger than normal volume of false alarms in 2019, where the police responded to 22,000 calls.
Add the hour or so that it takes a required two officers to investigate, and the waste of man hours starts to stack up. The first false alarm is free, the second is either $50, or a free online course for alarm training. After that, the fee starts to climb around $25 per violation.
