The Best Ways For Your Alarm Monitoring Company Sales Team to Manage Contacts

May 21, 2020 8:00:00 AM

Many alarm monitoring companies continue to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many have found ways to continue to be productive, it can still be difficult, especially for sales managers to successfully manage sales reps without in-person interaction. Don’t let being away from your team put a strain on your team’s communication or relationships. Below you’ll find helpful tips on the best ways to manage your sales team remotely.

Calendars

When you aren’t able to walk around the corner to talk to your team members, it is important that everybody’s availability is transparent. As you manage your sales team remotely, make sure that your calendar is available for everybody to see. Also, try to make yourself as available as possible for your team.

And for those times when you have meetings of your own, rely on your senior sales members to answer questions for developing teammates. Your senior members can be a major resource to enable your team to grow, especially when you are locked up in appointments of your own.

When it is time to meet up via Zoom, or whatever video conferencing app your company uses, making the most of your meeting time is key. Set a meeting agenda that is available for everyone beforehand so everyone can come prepared and make the best use of the available time.

Not Everything Has To Be Business

It can be lonely working from home. Many people don’t understand how much office culture and work relationships take part in their day-to-day life. Just because you are working from home doesn’t mean that, as a manager, you can’t facilitate and continue relationship and team building. One way to go about doing that is to create a time during the week where your team conferences in, but don’t necessarily talk about work. This can be especially helpful for newly on-boarded team members who may feel isolated.

It doesn’t have to go that far if you don’t want to create a meeting. You can just as easily dedicate some time within your weekly sales meeting with your reps to celebrate an outstanding performer, or a deal that was just signed. When you’re home, sometimes the impact of great work can be lost in the void. Designate some time to acknowledge those accomplishments. You’d be surprised how far it can go to create positive morale within your sales team.

Learning Shouldn’t Stop

If you had training procedures in place before you started working remotely, don’t let those go by the wayside. And if you don’t have any weekly training or discussion in place, now is a good time to start. One tip is for every team member to bring to the meeting a particular call — it can be a particularly difficult call, or one that ended up in a closed deal — and take 5-10 minutes to analyze what happened during the call: things that went well, and things that went wrong. And when things go wrong, it can serve as a wonderful opportunity to learn and train team members on how to avoid or navigate those situations.

Don’t let being away from your sales team have a negative impact. Your alarm monitoring company’s sales team can continue to thrive and grow, it just may look and feel a little different.
