Plant City, FL–It was 2:30 in the morning when Sherri awoke, gasping for air, yet unable to fill her lungs.
Sherri had COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and stage 3 lung cancer. She had taken her medication that night, as usual, but couldn’t seem to get the relief she needed. She started to panic as each breath became more and more difficult to take.
Sherri then remembered her Belle device. She pushed the button on her pendant as quickly as she could and was promptly connected to an AvantGuard operator.
“I...I’m having...trouble...b-breathing…” Sherri managed to say, barely louder than a whisper.
Hailey, the AG operator who responded to Sherri’s alert, urgently sent the paramedics to Sherri’s location. She then stayed on the line with Sherri until help arrived and reassured her things would be okay.
Regarding the incident, Hailey said, “I could tell things were really bad by how difficult it was for Sherri to say just those few words. I knew she needed medical help immediately.”
When Hailey relayed the situation to the paramedics, they knew Sherri didn’t have much time. They arrived at Sherri’s location within minutes and rushed her to the hospital.
The doctors were able to give Sherri relief through the night and kept her in the Intensive Care Unit for the following five days to make sure she recovered fully. They told Sherri that had she arrived at the hospital just ten minutes later, she most likely wouldn’t have made it.
Sherri had owned her Belle device for three years and never used it, but was immensely grateful she kept it on her after this incident. “These devices are worth their weight in gold,” she said in a message to the AG central station.
