AG Heroes | Don’t Listen to the Voices in Your Head

Delaware - Just give up. It doesn’t matter how you do it, but just give up. Hurt yourself.

The voices in Emma’s head were getting worse. And the pain was steadily increasing. Even with her boyfriend Christopher there, she couldn’t keep the voices at bay. So she decided to press her medical pendant and get help.

After a few moments, Emma was connected to Rylee, an AvantGuard operator. “It was hard to understand her at first—she was pretty worked up,” Rylee recalled. “She was having chest pain, and her boyfriend told me about the voices in her head.”

Due to the uniqueness of the situation, Rylee decided that it would be best if she stay on the line and talk things through with Emma while she had Brannon, a fellow AvantGuard operator, contact the paramedics.

While they waited for EMS to arrive, Rylee talked with Emma in order to take her mind off of the thoughts of self harm. She and Christopher told her that they plan to get married soon. They told Rylee how they met, talked about their life goals, and Christopher expressed to her what a fighter Emma is.

The voices in Emma’s head had been a presence for some time, and Christopher told Rylee that he plans to be there to help Emma through her trials. "I love her and she loves me. We take care of each other, that's all that matters," he said.

While Rylee conversed with Emma and Christopher, Brannon stayed on the line with the dispatch officer—giving him information about Emma’s condition as Rylee talked to her. The dispatch operator was then able to relay the info onto the paramedics so that they had a good grasp on the situation when they arrived on the scene.

The dispatch officer was impressed with the level of professionalism Rylee and Brannon exhibited and the amount of info they provided. "Of all the alarm companies I have worked with this was the best one,” he commented.

When asked about the event, Rylee said, “Today, like us all, [Emma] just needed a little help. Not only were her boyfriend and PERS device there, but today I got to be a part of that too.”

This is yet another prime example of teamwork shown by our AvantGuard operators who work to help subscribers, day in and day out.
