Your support will make a huge difference for three families facing financial strain from medical issues. Please consider making a donation of $500 or more. In return, your organization will be recognized as follows:
Meet Scarlett Elder, a 3-year-old currently living in Providence, UT. Scarlett has chromosome 9p deletion. This disorder causes some differences in appearance, as well as delays in motor skill, speech, and learning function. She has had one corrective skull surgery and one abdominal corrective surgery since birth. She continues to be one of the sweetest little girls you've ever met. The donations from this 5K would not only benefit her and her family but allow her to be instrumental in learning how to treat this disorder, as it was just documented in 2008 for the first time.
Jack Patteson, from Rexburg, ID, was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Complex 2 Deficiency when he was 14 months old. This is an extremely rare disease that causes cells in the body not to produce energy. Jack’s Mito affects his whole body, especially his brain. He experiences epilepsy, regular metabolic strokes, and significant developmental delays since his diagnosis. Even with all of Jack’s health issues, he is such a joy to be around! We are honored to sponsor Jack in our Rexburg 2023 Run for a Reason. 100% of the donations from this event will go to Jack and his family to help with his medical expenses and treatment. Jack’s family treats each day with Jack as a gift not to be taken for granted.
Caden Simpson, a fun-loving 7-year-old from Cedar City, UT, was diagnosed with liver cancer in April 2022 and has been undergoing intense treatment since then. He has two very rare types of cancer – Hepatocellular (HCC) and Malignant Neoplasm. He has been through 6 rounds of aggressive chemotherapy, blood draws twice weekly, 30 CT scans, 30 ultrasounds, a liver transplant, 40+ blood and platelet transfusions, and 8 surgeries so far, with several more anticipated procedures. Through it all, his family describes Caden as funny, caring, and compassionate. All the donations from this event will go to Caden and his family to help with his medical expenses and treatment. His family is enjoying every moment they have with him.
