AG Heroes | Suicidal Man Threatens Family

Muamee, OH–On August 9th in the early afternoon, AvantGuard operator Thomas received a medical alarm from Richard. Thomas asked if everything was all right. Richard, in a panic, indicated that his brother-in-law was threatening to take his life. Scared and unsure of what to do, Richard had pressed his button to get help for his brother-in-law.

Thomas asked if the police or paramedics needed to be sent over. Richard hesitantly declined, saying that everything seemed fine. Richard continued to explain that his brother-in-law had substance abuse problems and that after a sober streak had fallen back into his addictive habits. Erring on the side of caution, Thomas informed Richard that he would send police assistance anyway.

After dispatching the authorities, Thomas contacted Richard once again to check on the situation. Frightened, Richard explained that not only was his brother-in-law threatening to take his life, but that he had begun to threaten to kill Richard and the rest of the family as well.

Thomas stayed on the line until police arrived while family members argued in the background.

Thankfully, police arrived on scene to calm the situation before any violence broke out.

Thanks to Thomas's careful adherence to procedures and erring on the side of caution, Richard and his family are safe. We'd also like to thank Muamee Police Department and the provider of Richard's medical device
