AvantGuard Monitoring Centers was recently contacted by a medical alarm user in New Hampshire who wanted to thank Central Station Operator Bowdie Campbell for saving their life.

On November 23rd 2011, the medical alarm user suffered a violent fall in their home which caused a severe laceration. Fortunately, the subscriber was wearing their medical alarm pendant and was able to push the button to send an emergency signal to AvantGuard Monitoring Centers. That signal was received by Bowdie Campbell. Bowdie quickly established communication in to the user’s home through the medical alarm system. The user noted that they were able to hear Bowdie’s voice, but was so severely injured that they were not able to respond. Following his training and protocol, Bowdie, after not hearing the user in their residence coordinated a fast response with local emergency medical responders.

When the emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found that the user was unconscious, and had lost three quarts of blood. They quickly stabilized the user and rushed them to the hospital where they remained hospitalized over a month.

As soon as the user was released from the hospital they wanted to contact AvantGuard to thank the operator who played such a vital role in saving their life.

AvantGuard is proud to employ such highly trained professionals such as Bowdie! Great job!

AvantGuard Central Station Operator Brian Sherer is drawing praise from a grateful medical alarm subscriber in Pennsylvania.

Brian, who works as a Central Station Operator in AvantGuard’s Ogden Utah Central Station facility received a medical alarm signal from the subscriber’s Pennsylvania residence at about 1:30pm on December 13th 2011. Brian quickly established contact with the subscriber through the 2-way voice feature of the medical alarm panel installed in the home. Brian quickly ascertained that the subscriber had suffered a violent fall in their home, and had fractured their collar bone. Brian then immediately dispatched Emergency Medical Technicians to the scene where the subscriber was treated, and transported to the hospital for the necessary medical attention.

The subscriber recently contacted AvantGuard to personally thank Brian for the great job he did in responding to their alarm signal. The subscriber credits both the Medical alarm system installed in their home, and the expert monitoring response by Brian in possibly saving their life. They said that without the medical pendant, and Brian’s response, they would have been laying on the floor for an indefinite period of time as the broken collar bone made it impossible for the subscriber to get back up.

As we look forward to the new year, we also reflect back on the old year. 2011 was a great year at AvantGuard. Most notably we switched to our Stages automation platform early on in the year. This has allowed us to provide better service to our dealers and their customers. We experienced strong growth as our dealers grew, and as more dealers signed on.

Some interesting statistics for the year.

Our AvantGuard operators responded to 1,700,000 alarms during 2011.

We helped over 38,000 people who had fallen or needed some other type of medical assistance.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to our employees, dealers, and vendors. We look forward to great things in 2012.

Brandon, who works as a Supervisor in AvantGuard’s Ogden Utah central station received a medical alarm signal from a customer in Pennsylvania early Sunday morning on November 13th 2011.

Kelly Courtney, who works as a Central Station Shift Lead in AvantGuard’s Tacoma Washington Central Station recently helped Portland Oregon police officers prevent a burglary.

At about 9:00pm on Tuesday, November 8th Kelly received the first drop of what would be multiple exterior motion detector trips in different areas of the Portland Oregon business. Kelly’s years of central station experience kicked in to action as multiple motion detector drops usually end up being a burglary attempt. Kelly quickly coordinated a police department response, and notified the business owners of the situation.

Because of Kelly’s quick response, police units were able to respond to the scene before the would be burglars were able to gain entry to the building. Once police were on the scene they discovered that the burglars had cut a large hole in business’ rear fence, and also attempted to cut a hole in an aluminum siding wall to gain entrance to the business. Police believe that the alarm system’s loud siren, and the sirens of arriving police cars scared the burglars from the scene before they could be apprehended.

The business owner commented to AvantGuard’s Nick Salmond, Central Station Supervisor that “I wasn’t sure an alarm system would work at first, but this experience has proven that an alarm system and a capable central station operator can be very effective in preventing crime.”

Great work Kelly!
