On August 14, 2012 AvantGuard employees (and sisters) Megan Berrett and Morgan Rallison were waiting in the main lobby of AvantGuard’s corporate offices. Without warning, a 56 year old male who was also in the lobby passed out, smacked his head against a coffee table, and started to have a seizure. Megan immediately called 911. The male stopped seizing and it was then discovered that he was not breathing and he was turning blue. Morgan went outside to let the paramedics in the building and show them where the male was located. Megan stayed on the line with the dispatcher and gave instructions (via the dispatcher) to another visitor who began CPR. They checked the man’s mouth for any foreign objects and eventually got a single breath out of him. Megan continued to mediate instructions between the dispatcher and the woman. The man finally started breathing again and eventually regained consciousness. He was transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
We want to congratulate and thank all of those who helped save this man’s life. This is a great example of AvantGuard employees’ fast response while staying calm, no matter what the situation.
On August 11, 2012 at 5:27AM, a McDonald’s restaurant in Northern Utah triggered a waterflow alarm. Within two seconds, AG-Utah operator,
Tyler Checketts, accessed the alarm and immediately dispatched the fire department. He then handed the alarm off to AG-Washington operator, Janee Hale, to call the premise to verify the alarm. A McDonald’s employee answered the phone, and frantically stated, “My fryers are on fire! Send the fire deparment.” Janee calmly assured the employee that the fire department was already on their way, and she advised the employee to get everyone out of the store.
We thank Tyler and Janee for working as a team — even though they work nearly a thousand miles apart! They along with all AG team members do an exceptional job of protecting life and property every day! Go team!
On August 4, 2012 at 8:02AM, AvantGuard team member, Garret Vallade, received several medical alarms from Wilda C. in Wichita, Kansas.
When Garret connected to the two-way voice communication device he spoke with Wilda’s son, who requested an ambulance for his mother. Garret immediately dispatched the paramedics to Wilda’s address.
Later that evening, her son contacted AvantGuard to confirm Wilda had suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized. Luckily, there was little damage to her arteries! The son expressed how grateful he was for having the service and praised the quick response that helped Wilda get the help she needed.
It’s fast responses like this that help save lives everyday. We thank all AG team members for their continual, immediate responses and for being instrumental in coordinating life saving responses.
On July 17, 2012 at 9:55PM AvantGuard received a general fire alarm for a complex of townhouses in Boise, Idaho. AG team member, Emily Smith, accessed the alarm within 4 seconds, and was on the phone dispatching the fire department within 27 seconds of receiving the alarm! When the fire department arrived, they confirmed that the structure was indeed on fire, and they were quickly able to extinguish the fire — saving lives and property!
In addition to congratulating our own team member, we commend Crane Alarm Service for their great fire alarm installation, as well as the Ada County Fire Department for their quick response. That’s teamwork!.
Brent Crane, VP of Crane Alarm Service had this to say, “A quality fire alarm installation by Crane Alarm Service and the quick response of AvantGuard Monitoring saved a building structure and lives today. I am so proud of our team.”

AvantGuard Central Station Operator Sila Mauia helps Washington Medical Alarm user

On July 14, 2012 at 5:33PM, AG Operator, Silafai Mauia (Sila), received a medical alarm from Matthew A. in Tacoma, Washington. Matthew told Sila that he had tripped over a wire. The wire caused him to fall to the ground and trigger a medical alarm. Not only did Matthew need assistance getting up, but he also injured himself in this unfortanate mishap (the specificity of these injuries remain unknown). Sila immediately dispatched the paramedics to respond to Matthew’s emergency. After sending paramedics to Matthew’s address, Sila called his emergency contacts to respond as well. Shortly thereafter, AvantGuard confirmed that Matthew had to be transported to a nearby hospital to treat the injuries sustained in the fall.
Without the combination of a medical alarm system and the fast, accurate response from an AG operator, who knows how long Matthew would have been stuck on the floor, in pain, waiting for help. We thank Sila, and all AvantGuard operators, for their continual fast response on all alarms. It’s a reminder to us all as to the WHY of what we do.
AG operator, Chris Hunt, received an abort signal from the alarm system at an autobody shop in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 23 at 6:15am. He immediately called the site to make sure everything was okay. Upon doing so, he spoke with a male who gave his name as “Brian” — the owner of the business. Chris asked for the passcode and was given an invalid passcode. Chris then followed procedures, by politely ending the call, and calling the call list to verify that the individual on site was okay to be on site. While doing so, he reached the real “Brian”, who advised he was not the one on site and requested to dispatch the authorities. Chris immediately followed instructions and dispatched the police department.
Way to go on your fast and accurate response on this alarm, Chris!
